SAILFISH POINT — It's going to take more than a little wind and waves to slow down the Bone Shaker this week.

On Wednesday's first day of fishing in the 26th Sailfish Point Yacht Club Invitational Sailfish Tournament, the charter boat based at Finest Kind Marina was tops among the fleet of 13 boats.

Capt. Scott Fawcett led anglers Vincent Smyth, Ed Smyth and Rich Henry to almost half of the day's catches.

Bone Shaker's six sailfish releases is well ahead of second standing boats Skut-L-Butt with Capt. John Blumenthal and Hattitude with Capt. Randy Turner, both with two fish apiece.

The fleet combined for 14 releases on the day.

"We found a piece of water with 74.6-degree temperature and a little bait," said Fawcett, who reported his position near the Loran 43380-line in 140 feet of water.

"We caught the six, had three other bites and saw three others that didn't bite."

Fawcett said there were enough bites to keep his anglers in the game.

"We saw a couple rises of coveys of fish and everyone saw fish in the teasers so it was a lot of fun," he said.

Boats fish three of the tournament's four days.

Based on weather reports that forecast 20-knot south winds and seas 4 to 6 feet, many of the teams may choose to lay in today.

The Invitational fishes through Saturday.
