Fishing Techniques
Being based in Stuart, Florida, much of the fishing centers around the world class sailfish action. Bone Shaker targets sailfish using two primary methods - trolling and/or live baiting.
Trolling can be done with dead or live baits, but usually with dead baits. Properly prepared dead baits - like ballyhoo - are extremely resilient and last a great deal of time. Trolling these sturdy baits allows us to troll at faster speeds than possible with more fragile live baits. Therefore we are able to cover much more water in our quest to locate fish. With that said, live baiting also has its advantages.
Once located, sailfish generally prefer live bait to any other offering. So, if you're in an area where the sailfish are plentiful, the proper presentation of live baits will almost certainly result in more hook-ups. On charters which live bait will be used, the crew will catch the bait as promptly as possible, and then get offshore and down to the main business at hand - sailfishing.
Both trolling methods have their advantages and disadvantages, but there is usually one method more appropriate for the conditions at hand. Capt. VJ is an expert at choosing the proper method to maximize your chances of success.
Whether trolling dead bait or kite fishing with live bait, the sailfish strike and ensuing fight is something you'll remember forever. Additionally, you can expect to encounter dolphin, wahoo and king mackerel while fishing for sailfish.
Apart from sailfish season, Florida water are teeming with other gamefish year-round. Summertime action can be stellar with the king mackerel fishing heating up. Sailfish, dolphin, cobia are around in the spring and early summer as well. We also do some bottom and wreck fishing for mutton and mangrove snapper, grouper and amberjack.
With Bone Shaker Sportfishing you're always guaranteed a clean air conditioned boat and 100% effort from our courteous, fine tuned crew.
